Twice this year the Seton Catholic Varsity Volleyball Team has been up two sets to none going into the third. Twice this year it’s looked as though the Cougs would sweep their opponent and end the game in three. But twice this year they’ve had a two set to zero lead and ended up losing in five.
The girls made sure that was not the case this time as they seemed to have figured out what it takes to win a varsity match in the Tri Co League.
Tonight Seton faced the Stevenson Bulldogs in their third league match of the season. The Cougs seemed to have a different vibe when they took the court tonight. They looked very focused in warm ups and seemed intense yet not tense. The focus and the energy translated in the girls taking command of the match right away and winning the first set 25-17.
The girls showed no let downs, even when Stevenson made a run and had what looked like a chance to close out the second set. The Cougs regained their focus and finished off the second set with a 25-22 win.
The Cougs took that momentum into the third and the girls made quick work of the final set closing out the Bulldogs 25-12 for the Cougs first victory of the season and an all important league win!
Coach Adams was very proud of her girls and their performance. Bailey Crawford led the Cougs with 15 kills, 7 digs and 4 aces. Anna Yjarnson had 11 kills, 1 block, and 9 digs with an amazing hitting percentage of .733! Coach Adams called Savanah Smith’s performance the best “setting” she’s seen from her yet as Smith recorded 27 assists in the three set match.
The Cougs will travel to La Center Thursday for another tough Tri Co League Match.
