Being the smallest 1A school in the state of Washington we’re used to playing against bigger and stronger opponents. It’s a lot harder when you’re missing players due to illness or holiday. Tonight we just didn’t have enough horses in the barn to stay with the fast paced Scapoose boys. Coming off a State Championship just two years ago, Scapoose has their hoop program rolling and they wasted no time showing that championship mentality tonight as they immediately started the game with a 7-0 run.
After a timeout and some enthusiastic encouragement from the coaching staff the cougars went on a run of their own and within a couple of minutes Seton was up 13-11 and ball in hands. That was the last time the cougs ever saw the lead as Scapoose when on a 28 to 11 point run and never looked back. Forcing 12 first half turnovers allowed Scapoose to run out on Seton and put us on our heals.
Seton started the third quarter the way we started the first and Scapoose built upon their lead before the Cougars regained some composure and started answering basket for basket never being able to significantly put any real pressure on the home team. Both teams put up 37 points in the second half and the Cougs fell to Scapoose by 15 with a final score 61-76.
Henry Demsky led the Cougars with 23 points including 5 three pointers. Matt Kent was the only other Cougar in double figures with 14.
The boys will have the next few days before Christmas to get things right and then head with the entire Seton Catholic Basketball Program to Tri Cities to take on 2B powerhouse Tri City Prep December 27th.
Wishing everyone a very Blessed and Merry Christmas!
