Kings High School from Shoreline WA has been in the WIAA State final four each of the last 5 years with 2 of those years being back to back state championships. Traveling up north to play them Saturday after such an emotional win Friday night was a tough task but the Cougs wasted no time in showing our “anyone, anytime, any place” mentality.
Right from the opening tip Seton showed we weren’t there just for a moral victory we came for a win. Luke Pitzer hit three straight 3 point jumpers and the cougs were up 9-0 just 2 minutes into the game. After that it was a back and forth game the rest of the way. The first half ended with Seton up 30-25.
The second half was a huge defensive struggle as we stuck with our commitment to make them beat us with jump shots and kept them out of the paint. Holding them to right around 30% shooting while taking care of the ball put us in position to win at the end. The Cougs held a 3 point lead with about 15 seconds to play. Our defense extended and forced them to use up clock as they tried to advance the ball against our pressure. With just 3 seconds left Kings was forced to put up a contested three point shot that was off the mark and Seton walked away with a 58-55 victory in what was one of our most complete games of the season.
Isaiah Parker paced the Cougars with 19 points. Luke Pitzer added 13, Andy Olson 11 and Matthew Kent chipped in 9.
The Cougs will take on La Center Tuesday night at La Center with a 7pm tip!
