Coming off an emotional win on Thursday night over rival King’s Way the coaches could sense that the boys were emotionally flat during our pre-game stretch and understandably so after ending a 6 year drought in such dramatic fashion. On top of that 10th ranked Montesano was coming to town. The powerhouse from the Evergreen district that knocked us out of the playoffs last year.
The game started well for us as we built a quick eight point lead and ended the first quarter up 15-9. The second quarter was a back and forth battle as both teams found their offensive rhythm and we went into halftime up 34-27.
In the third quarter you could see the fatigue setting in on us as Montesano put up a 23 point quarter and began to dominate us physically on the boards. The Bulldogs shot 10 free throws in the 3rd quarter alone and scored 14 points in the paint. The third quarter ended with us up 53-50 but the momentum was in Montesano’s favor.
The fourth quarter both teams left it all out on the court. Every time one team made a run the other answered until the end of the game when it cam down to a free throw shooting contest. The Cougs were steady at the line and held onto the three point victory 74-71.
Seton was led by Henry Demsky’s 25 points! Isaiah Parker added 21 and Matthew Kent chipped in 16.
The Cougs will get back to league play on Tuesday with an important home game vs Columbia High School (White Salmon).
The JV Boys also pulled off the home court victory with a 56-48 final! The JV boys were led by Kellen Ball’s 17 points and Noah Carlos’s 16!
