Cougars News · Cougars Advance With Win Over Stevenson!

The Seton Catholic Cougars shook off their Tuesday heartbreak and took care of business in a “loser out game” vs the Stevenson Bulldogs.

Yesterday’s practice started out rough as it was clear to see the Cougs felt they let the big one get away in Tuesday night’s game vs La Center. But after a few moments the pace of our practice picked up and we finished with an outstanding session leading into tonight’s game!

This game was a mirror image of our practice. We started a bit flat. Seemed a step slow and at the end of the 1st quarter Stevenson held a 2 point lead 10-12. But in the second quarter you saw that focus, that commitment, that drive to play Seton Catholic Basketball! The Cougs went on a 17-2 run, and a 25-6 run for the quarter and went into halftime up 17 points 35-18! Seton had seven players score in the 2nd period to help us pull away! Combine that with the energy that our cheer squad brings to our crowd and we knew we weren’t going to let this one get away!

The third quarter was quite a bit colder offensively but defensively we held the high scoring Bulldogs to just 12 points in the quarter and led by 16 going into the final period.

Neither team put up much offense in the final quarter and in the last three minutes Seton looked to work time of the clock with each possession. Our defense remained stingy as we held Stevenson to just 11 points in the fourth quarter and secured our second playoff victory in school history and a chance to play for a birth in the WIAA State Playoffs with a final score of 56-41!

Seton was led by Henry Demsky’s 17 points, Matt Kent scored 15, and Isaiah Parker added 9. Luke Pitzer also chipped in 7 points!

The Cougs will have a tough challenge on Saturday as we head up north to face the #1 seed from the Evergreen League Montesano! Tip off time is 6:30pm at Kelso High School!

Once again thank you to all of our students and parents! Despite being in a neutral gym you give it that home game atmosphere! Thank you to our “6th man” the Seton Cheer Squad! You truly are part of this team!

See you in Kelso on Saturday!

Go Cougs!
