Today was a bittersweet day for the Seton Community. Today the Seton Community honored the life of Mr. Neil Brislawn. A Seton Father, Husband, and Friend to all who knew him. A man who was loved by all and will truly be missed. Coach Ephraim knew it was heavy on his players minds and hearts so during the team’s devotions Coach E talked about what a privilege it was for this team to play a game in his honor. Ephraim told them the best way to approach a day like today was to play with our hearts and from our hearts for the Brislawn Family, and the Seton Community as a whole.

The Cougs took that honor to the field and opened the season with a 40-0 victory over the 3A Fort Vancouver Trappers.

The Cougs were a little sloppy at first with some unnecessary penalties that stalled the first drive and gave Fort a little confidence. But after a great defensive stop the Cougs drove the length of the field and capped it off with a 8 yard touchdown pass from Tay Deloney to Taj Muhammad! Seth Moore converted the extra point and it was 7-0 with 8 minutes left in the first quarter.

The score remained 7-0 through the 1st quarter and well into the 2nd and both teams struggled to find any offensive rhythm. With 4 minutes left in the 2nd quarter and the Cougs at the forty Deloney rolled out to his right and found a wide open Taj Muhamaad in the end zone for his 2nd touchdown of the day and a 13-0 lead!

Fort received the kickoff and after a few costly penalties the Trappers had the ball near mid field. Fort’s QB had dropped back to pass and was rolling towards his right when the Seton defensive rush hit him from behind causing a fumble. Griffin Young picked up the fumble in perfect stride and sprinted forty yards for his first touchdown ever in his first high school football game! The Cougs converted the 2 point conversion and it was 21-0 at the half and the momentum was all Seton.

The third quarter was more of the same clumsy offense from both teams with costly penalties hurting any chance of sustained drives. The Seton defense was incredible throughout as they were flying all over the field. Late in the third the Seton offense woke up and once again with Deloney throwing his 2nd forty yard touchdown pass of the day hitting Mikey Silviera on a fade towards the left pylon! 27-0 Cougs at the end of 3!

After the kickoff the cougs got the ball right back after a Fort fumble and three plays later Taj Muhammad to the sweep around the left end into the end zone! 34-0 Cougs with 10 mins left in the final period.

Once again the Seton defense followed the play of the Seton offense with a touchdown of their own. Sophomore defensive back Elijah Volk picked up a fumble by the Fort QB at the 30 yard line and sprinted untouched into the end zone to put the final points on the board and send Seton to the 40-0 home victory.

Coach Ephraim said he was very pleased with his defense today. His offense needs work but he was happy to see the “D” flying around all over the field. He said he was humbled to be able to play in Mr. Brislawn’s and the Brislawn Family’s honor.

From the entire Seton Catholic Athletic Family, our heart felt thoughts, prayers, and love go out to the Brislawns.

The Cougars will travel up north to take on Charles Wright Academy on Friday night at 7pm.
