Playing their 3rd game in four nights and their third straight game against outstanding competition the Cougars were bound to have tired legs. Those tired legs only managed 49 points for the entire game and Seton learned why King’s is a top 5 team in the 1A this year.
Seton came into the game averaging nearly 70 points per game. Their pressure defense and fast paced offense is usually able to run teams off the floor. Tonight with tired legs the Seton boys ran into a team that knew exactly how to control the tempo and is very comfortable scoring at their pace. After the 1st quarter it was 17-16 King’s. Seton was playing hard but they were unable to push any kind of tempo and in the second quarter the Cougars offense went cold while King’s continued their methodical offense. Seton managed only 9 points in the 2nd and King’s went into halftime with a 9 point lead.
The third quarter showed flashes of a Seton style of basketball but once again King’s was able to slow the pace down and force a half court style of play. Seton was only able to score 11 in the third and King’s was well on their way to a comfortable victory. Seton trailed by 16 at the end of the third and in the fourth the Knights ran away with it by finishing with a 25-11 fourth quarter run and Seton’s first loss on their home court this year.
The Cougs were led by Xavian Rushing’s 16 points. Gabe Anderson was the only other Seton player with double figures as he finished with 10.
The Cougars will get some time off for Christmas and then play their final preseason game at home in the first match up ever between Seton Catholic and LaSalle from Portland Dec. 27th at Seton. JV 5:30pm/Varsity 7pm .
Have a very blessed Christmas
