The Seton Catholic Varsity Boys Basketball team finished the first half of league play Monday night at Stevenson with a huge road win 76-68. The Cougs will go into the second half of league play standing alone in second place. The highest position the program has been in school history.
The game started out fast and remained that way throughout the first half with not a lot of defense but plenty of offense including a baseline dunk by Xavian Rushing! The half ended with a 3 point lead for the Cougs 45-42.
In the third quarter Seton’s defense showed up as they went on a 22-9 run in the period leading by 15 at the end of three. In the fourth the Cougs offense stalled by their defense was stingy enough and their lead large enough for the Bulldogs to never get closer than 8 and Seton taking the league win on the road!
Seton was led by Xavian Rushing’s 21 points. Andy Olson and Delano Morgan scored 13 points each with Morgan scoring 8 straight in the 2nd period alone. Gabe Anderson had 11 points and Hayden Miller chipped in 8 points for the Cougars.
While Coach Small was happy with the win and Xavian Rushing’s presence in the middle, he was not very pleased with the Cougs defense saying: “we need to get better.”
Seton has the next couple nights off then the second half of league play begins Friday Night as the Cougs travel to La Center for a big match up between the league’s top two teams. JV 5:30/Varsity 7pm.
