The Varsity Boys opened league play tonight at home against the defending Tri Co League Champ and District 4 Champ La Center Wildcats. La Center has not lost a league basketball game since the 2016/2017 season and they had everyone returning again this year. The Cougs knew going into tonight we’d have to play a very sound defensive game against the Wildcats.
La Center came out firing on all cylinders tonight as they started the game 12-0 and went on a 31-14 run in the first quarter. Seton played a little too nervous to begin the game and struggled to finish on some shots that otherwise would normally be routine. In the second quarter Seton began to settle down a bit offensively and tightened things up defensively as well but still trailed by 16 at the half.
In the third period Seton began to close the gap a bit and had the lead down to single digits at one point when Isaiah Parker picked up his fourth foul. With Parker out the Cougs still battled but trailed at the end of three by 13.
In the fourth again Seton managed another run and had the lead down to six points at one point. But if you want to beat a championship team you have to finish and that’s one thing La Center is outstanding at doing. Finishing games. La Center continued to execute and finish in the lane. Seton never managed to get the lead back into single digits and La Center
made their free throws to keep the game out of reach.
Despite being in foul trouble for a large portion of the game Isaiah Parker led the Cougs with 18 points. Gabe Anderson added 16. Xavian Rushing and Andy Olson each added 10 points while Delano Morgan chipped in 8.
Seton will have a day to regroup then it’s off to Columbia High School in White Salmon on Saturday afternoon for their second Tri Co League game. JV 1pm/ Varsity 2:30
